What can I do when I am in the area?
This is a common question… get ready to have your socks knocked off!!
Park County has many activities you can do and the surrounding areas offer up even more fun things.
Many trails cross the area and of course you have Pike National Forest that wraps around the South Park area as well as Lost Park Wilderness. Some of the trails Include Colorado Trail, Triple Crown Fourteeners, Gold Dust Trail & Mount Silverheels.
Of course you always have the back roads to Mtn Bike in. There is the National Forest as well. Don’t forget the views and scenery of the Colorado Trail, French Pass Trail, Platte River Trail and so much MORE!!
Either you have horses or enjoy a ride through the mountains and valleys. Just take your horse into the National Forest and enjoy the remote back country trails. If you do not have a horse one of the outfitters in the area can take you out on a guided tour of the South Park area and everything this amazing area has to offer.
Have a look around the area and find your favorite spot to fish. From the rivers (Tarryall River & Platte River), numerous creeks, abundant state Wildlife area (Alma, Tomahawk & Antero), many Reservoirs (Tarryall, Eleven Mile, Spinney Mtn, Antero, Jefferson Lake) & of course the National Forest.
Take a ride in the forest and explore the miles and miles of forest roads all over Park County. Maps do not even begin to cover what is out in the area so fill up the tank and go explore.
Lots of area to enjoy, National Forest, Tarryall Reservoir, Lost Park Wilderness many camp grounds and of course dispersed camping as well.
From Mild to Wild Park County has it all. From the Steepest decent in CO (Red Cone) to some of the epic obstacles in the state at Wheeler Lake. Go out and explore the scenery and the fun on other fun trails, China Wall, Georgia Pass & Mosquito Pass.

Park County is rich in history , and mining. Bring your camera, and soak up some
knowledge at the same time.
Visit South Park City for a replication of an old western town. This must see museum is located in downtown Fairplay, Colorado, on Front Street, one block west of Hwy 9.
Park County has been recently designated as a National Historic Heritage Area. Home to historic gold mines, ranches, and beautiful mountains, averaging 9,000 feet in elevation. Fairplay is one of the highest towns, in the world.

Cross Country Skiing (aka Nordic Skiing or XC Skiing) is, in the opinion of many exercise physiologists and researchers, the world’s best aerobic fitness activity. The sport involves simultaneous use of arms and legs utilizing ski equipment including boots, poles, and skis.
Check out the amazing snow that the Continental divide has to offer. Lots of back-country fun with the excitement you came into the mountains to find.
When it comes time to bring home that big bull Elk, Deer, Antelope or Bear, Park County has it all in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. The South Park valley is surrounded by over 3 Million Acres of National Forest and not to mention State, BLM & DOW land.
Some of the worlds best skiing & snowboarding is near by!!! Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper, A Basin & Monarch are the closest in that order. Take advantage of the legendary powder stashes but not having to pay the resort prices.
One of the fastest growing activities in the U.S. is wildlife viewing. Park County is well-suited for this inexpensive and rewarding “sport,” with over 1,200-square miles of public lands, 12 state wildlife areas, two state parks and three nature preserves.
An outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called “geocaches” or “caches”) anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and “treasure”, usually toys or trinkets of little monetary value.
