What can I do when I am in the area?

This is a common question…
get ready to have your socks knocked off!!

Park County has many activities you can do and the surrounding areas offer up even more fun things.

  • Hiking
    • Many trails cross the area and of course you have Pike National Forest that wraps around the South Park area as well as Lost Park Wilderness.  Some of the trails Include Colorado Trail, Triple Crown Fourteeners, Gold Dust Trail & Mount Silverheels.
  • Biking
    • Of course you always have the back roads to Mtn Bike in.  There is the National Forest as well.  Don’t forget the views and scenery of the Colorado Trail, French Pass Trail, Platte River Trail and  so much MORE!!
  • Horseback Riding
    • Either you have horses or enjoy a ride through the mountains and valleys.  Just take your horse into the National Forest and enjoy the remote back country trails.  If you do not have a horse one of the outfitters in the area can take you out on a guided tour of the South Park area and everything this amazing area has to offer.
  • Fishing
    • Have a look around the area and find your favorite spot to fish.  From the rivers (Tarryall River & Platte River), numerous creeks, abundant state Wildlife area (Alma, Tomahawk & Antero), many Reservoirs (Tarryall, Eleven Mile, Spinney Mtn, Antero, Jefferson Lake) & of course the National Forest.
  • ATVs/Motorcycles
    • Take a ride in the forest and explore the miles and miles of forest roads all over Park County.  Maps do not even begin to cover what is out in the area so fill up the tank and go explore.
  • CAMPING
    • Lots of area to enjoy, National Forest, Tarryall Reservoir, Lost Park Wilderness many camp grounds and of course dispersed camping as well.
  • 4×4 OFF-ROAD
    • From Mild to Wild Park County has it all.  From the Steepest decent in CO (Red Cone) to some of the epic obstacles in the state at Wheeler Lake.  Go out and explore the scenery and the fun on other fun trails, China Wall, Georgia Pass & Mosquito Pass.

  • HISTORICAL EXPLORATION
    • Pick up some of the books on the area and read up on the history from the Ute Indians to today.
  • KAYAKING
    • Looking for a change in pace, Chaffee county is next to Park County and has plenty of rough water to have a good time.
  • WHITE WATER RAFTING
    • Great family fun is just over Trout Creek Pass, you can take half day trips down the white water or the more adventurous can go out for over a week!  Guided tours available.
  • SNOWSHOEING
    • Enjoying the pristine quiet winter months exploring is a great way to spend your free time.  Many folks hit the passes and huff it in to the rarely seen beauty winter has to offer.
  • CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
    • Cross Country Skiing (aka Nordic Skiing or XC Skiing) is, in the opinion of many exercise physiologists and researchers, the world’s best aerobic fitness activity. The sport involves simultaneous use of arms and legs utilizing ski equipment including boots, poles, and skis.
  • SNOWMOBILING
    • Check out the amazing snow that the Continental divide has to offer.  Lots of backcountry fun with the excitement you came into the mountains to find.
  • HUNTING
    • Many different areas to pull your permit.  Hunt large and small game in some of the most amazing terrain.
  • SKIING/SNOWBOARDING
    • Some of the worlds best skiing & snowboarding is near by!!!  Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper, A Basin & Monarch are the closest in that order.  Take advantage of the legendary powder stashes but not having to pay the resort prices.
  • WILDLIFE OBSERVATION
    • You name it we have it, birds from all over.  Large animals and small.
  • GEOCACHING
    • An outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System receiver or other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers (called “geocaches” or “caches”) anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small waterproof container containing a logbook and “treasure”, usually toys or trinkets of little monetary value.
  • SOUTH PARK CITY
    • Take a walk through history in a collection of buildings form all over the South Park area.
